Ellie Caldwell
Name: Ellie Caldwell
Age: 26
Occupation: Town Planner, Young Shire Council
How long have you lived in Young? Eight months
What is the best thing about living here? Young has a great buzz about it, particularly on a Saturday morning. People make a day of coming into town to shop, eat or just stroll the streets. It’s great to see such a vibrant and active rural community. The shops are occupied, the people are friendly AND you don’t get caught in traffic lights.
If you could change anything about your town what would it be? If I had the power, I think it would be a great idea to trial nose to kerb parking!
Why did you enter the Cherry Queen contest? Being a Town Planner, it is beneficial to understand and know who your community is. I feel the Cherry Queen contest is a great way for me to meet the community, particularly through events such as the recent ‘Meet and Greet’, and upcoming charity fundraising events.
What is your favourite part of the Cherry Festival? I haven’t been to a Cherry Festival yet, but I’ve heard about many amazing and unique events such as the Festival Parade or the cherry pip spitting contest. It sounds like a great way to celebrate delicious local produce!
A part of your participation in the Cherry Queen contest is to organize a fundraising event, would you please tell us about your event? I’m currently in discussions with my chosen charity, Snowy Hydro South Care, about event opportunities. Watch this space.
Where do you hope to be in 10 years time? I don’t believe in plan making, but wherever I am, I hope I’m happy and surrounded by loved ones.
