Katie Blair
Name: Katie Blair
Age: 18
Occupation: I work as a sales assistant at Terry Bros Carpet Court in Young.
How long have you lived in Young? All my life. I grew up on a cherry orchard in Maimuru.
What is the Best thing about living here?: Everything, Young is such a community based town, everyone is so friendly, it's Great.
If you could change anything about your town what would it be? Personally i wouldn't change anything, i would just add to it. I would have more activities for the Youth, like a night held monthly or something to bring them together and get them involved in community activities.
Why did you enter the cherry queen contest? I was encouraged to enter by my employers Peter and Lois Terry. I am a peoples person and enjoy volunteering my time to worthwhile community organisations like 2YYY Radio station and the Southern Cross Cinema, The Young Baptist Youth Group and now the cherry Festival and i am now finding that one of the best things i can do for this community is to give.
What is your favourite part of the Cherry Festival? My favourite part is the Community Church Service held in Anderson Park, i love how all churches and people from this community come together. I also love the Street Parade.
As part of your participation in the cherry queen contest is to organize a fundraising event, would you please tell us about your event? My chosen Fundraiser is Young's Self managed Renal unit. I am holding 3 fundraisers, a Ladies day out to be held on the 9th of October, a Movie Night on the 13th of October and a Golf day on the 16th of October. You are all invited to attend these events and i will be putting out more information as it gets closer to the time.
Where do you hope to be in 10 Years time? Hopefully in a career that i want to do, such as youth works, i love working with youth and offering assistance and a little bit of light and hope into peoples lives.
