Megan Pigram
Name: Megan Pigram, better known as Meg.
Age: 21
Occupation: Journalist.
Hobbies: Netball – umpiring, coaching and playing, of course shopping (Makes me normal doesn’t it?) movies, holidays and being with my friends.
How long have you lived in Young: Two and a half years.
What is the best thing about living here: The vibrant community, the friendly people and the outgoing nature of local businesses to support charity events.
If you could change anything about your town what would it be: Young is not perfect, but it sure is well on the way. Though I get impatient sitting at intersections and roundabouts so I would install traffic lights to the CBD of Young. I would also alter the varying speed limits as you enter the town. You go from 100, to 80 to 60 to 50. It confuses locals as well as visitors to the Cherry capital.
Why did you enter the Cherry Queen Contest: I’ve been given the opportunity to cover the event so many times. Everyone has so much fun, and the committee work so hard and I thought by getting involved not only gives me the inside scoop (as a journalist) but chance to mix with people I may not have previously. And the others girls in the contest are just great we have so much fun.
What is your favourite part of the cherry festival: I don’t know that I can pick just one aspect of the whole thing. The town is just on cloud nine and I am so pumped to be involved this year. But I guess you can’t go past the cherry pie eating competition and the gala ball. Every girl loves the chance to frock up and pull on some heels right?
Where do you hope to be in 10 years time: Ten years time – wow, owning my own home, debt free, driving a new car and working as a television reporter/newsreader on the coast or in the city. Im doing the country journalism thing at the moment and adore it – but I think to experience life’s full adventures you have to hit the hard core news that can only be found in metropolitan regions. I enjoy crime and court reporting most of all.
