What to See & Do

Tourist Information

Situated on the Olympic Hwy in the South West Slopes of NSW, Young is a great place to visit and offers something for everyone.

Today Young offers unique attractions and a wealth of accommodation and dining facilities to suit the needs and tastes of every budget. For more information regarding tourist information contact the Young Visitor Information Centre.

History and Heritage

Rich in history and character, the area was catapulted to the forefront of Colonial NSW with the discovery of gold in 1860. This precious metal proved to be an important catalyst in the development of Young and the surrounding area.

Revisit the history of Young at the Lambing Flat Folk Museum or the annual heritage celebrations at the Lambing Flat Festival. There are also many heritage signs in the town to tell the stories of Young’s yesteryear.

The Lambing Flat Chinese Tribute Gardens at Chinaman’s Dam create the perfect environment to relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility. The gardens have been developed “in recognition of the contribution of the Chinese community to the settlement of Young in the 1860’s and to the outgoing contributions of the Chinese people to Australia as a Nation”.

The gardens look spectacular all year and picnic facilities, BBQs and toilets are all available on site.

Cherries and Stonefruit

Widely known as the ‘Cherry Capital of Australia’ the area boasts many cherry and stonefruit orchards, some offering a ‘pick your own’ experience. Highlights of the year include Cherry Blossom time in September/October and the National Cherry Festival in late November/early December.

Young is centrally located in the ‘Hilltops’ Wine & Food region, increasingly recognised for producing quality cool climate wines, foods and offering an authentic country experience. Cellar doors offer tastings and sales of fine wines and quality produce is available in abundance.
